It's a number from 0 to 100 that sums up the forecast sea conditions in front of each beach: waves (40%), wind (30%), rain (20%) and air temperature (10%). Wind is assessed against the way the beach faces: if it blows offshore, the beach is sheltered. 80 and above means perfect conditions, 65 to 79 good, 50 to 64 choppy sea, below 50 best avoided. Thresholds, examples and limits are on the Method and sources page.
Wave, wind, rain and temperature forecasts come from Open-Meteo. Beaches and coastline come from OpenStreetMap, municipalities, provinces and regions from ISTAT, and the water quality class from European bathing water data (EEA, 2025 season). We update the scores twice a day, at 6:10 and 14:10 Italian time. The full list of sources, with licences, is on the Method and sources page.
2,676 coastal beaches in 15 regions and 62 provinces of Italy, taken from the beaches mapped on OpenStreetMap. Every beach has a free page with today's score and a 7-day forecast. You can search them all on the Explore map.
Yes. Every beach page is free, with no registration and no account. To support the service, some pages (beach pages, guides, regional pages) show Google AdSense ads; personalised ads only appear with your consent.
They are forecasts from gridded marine-weather models, not measurements taken on the beach, and they go up to 7 days ahead. They don't account for currents, jellyfish, seaweed, crowds or temporary swimming bans. The score does not replace lifeguard flags and instructions or local ordinances.
Write to us at hello@qualespiaggia.com with the beach name and its coordinates (or a map link). This applies to missing beaches, wrong names, and locations or orientations that need fixing, anywhere in Italy.
