Beaches in Liguria

Genoa: 77 beaches, mostly pebble (55% where the seabed is known), mainly facing south. Savona: 67 beaches, mostly sandy (85% where the seabed is known), mainly facing southeast. La Spezia: 63 beaches, mostly sandy (64% where the seabed is known), mainly facing southwest. Imperia: 40 beaches, mostly pebble (52% where the seabed is known), mainly facing south.

Where we know the seabed (128 of 247 beaches) there are 77 sandy, 43 pebble, 7 rocky and 1 with a mixed seabed. Most are sandy (60%).

Water quality: 215 of 246 beaches with an EEA monitoring point are rated excellent (87%, 2025 season). Others: 24 good, 6 sufficient and 1 poor.

The beaches mostly face southeast (105 beaches) and south (78 beaches). When the Mistral (NW) blows, the beaches facing southeast stay sheltered: 155 of 247. Provinces with the most sheltered beaches: Savona and Genoa. 183 of 247 beaches are sheltered from the Tramontane (N): those facing south. Provinces with the most sheltered beaches: Genoa and La Spezia. With the Libeccio (SW) 8 of 247 beaches are sheltered: those facing northeast. Provinces with the most sheltered beaches: Genoa and Savona. With the Sirocco (SE): none of these beaches gets an offshore wind.

Among the best-known beaches: Spiaggia di Portobello, Venere Azzurra, Riva Trigoso beach, Spiaggia di San Terenzo and Pegli beach.

Today (afternoon) the highest score is 88/100, at Bagni Fiore (Santa Margherita Ligure). 197 of 247 beaches are in good or perfect condition today (at least 65/100).
