We monitor 391 beaches in Sicily, in 8 provinces. By sea: 189 on the Tyrrhenian Sea, 113 on the Strait of Sicily, 76 on the Ionian Sea and 13 on the Strait of Messina. Most beaches: Messina (126), Trapani (57) and Palermo (53). From north to south they range from Spiaggia Lunga (Lipari) to Lampedusa beach (Lampedusa e Linosa).

Palermo: 53 beaches, mostly sandy (55% where the seabed is known), mainly facing north. Syracuse: 47 beaches, mostly sandy (93% where the seabed is known), mainly facing southeast. Agrigento: 45 beaches, mostly sandy (100% where the seabed is known), mainly facing southwest. Ragusa: 35 beaches, mostly sandy (100% where the seabed is known), mainly facing southwest.
Where we know the seabed (162 of 391 beaches) there are 104 sandy, 40 pebble and 18 rocky. Most are sandy (64%).
Water quality: 301 of 340 beaches with an EEA monitoring point are rated excellent (89%, 2025 season). Others: 29 good, 5 sufficient and 5 poor.
The beaches mostly face north (76 beaches) and southwest (61 beaches). When the Mistral (NW) blows, the beaches facing southeast stay sheltered: 96 of 391. Provinces with the most sheltered beaches: Messina and Syracuse. 85 of 391 beaches are sheltered from the Sirocco (SE): those facing northwest. Provinces with the most sheltered beaches: Messina and Palermo. With the Tramontane (N) 108 of 391 beaches are sheltered: those facing south. Provinces with the most sheltered beaches: Agrigento and Ragusa. When the Libeccio (SW) blows, the beaches facing northeast stay sheltered: 108 of 391. Provinces with the most sheltered beaches: Messina and Palermo.
Among the best-known beaches: Marina di Ragusa beach, Spiaggia di Calamosche, Spiaggia di Guidaloca, Spiaggia di Mollarella and Spiaggia dei Conigli.
