Campomarino Lido: beach guide
What the beach is like
Campomarino Lido is one of the four frazioni (hamlets) of Campomarino, in the province of Campobasso, in Molise. The hamlet lies between the Adriatic Sea and the strada statale 16 Adriatica. In QualeSpiaggia's data the beach faces the Adriatic and looks north-east.
The beaches, which Wikipedia describes as wide and clean, are surrounded by pine woods running from the Saccione to the mouth of the Biferno river. Along this stretch the coast is curved and closed by a headland on which Termoli and its port stand. The hamlet of Campomarino Lido has wide beaches, lined by the seafront and by numerous beach establishments.
In summer the place is crowded with tourists, while in winter only a small number of families live in the hamlet. According to data from the Ente provinciale del Turismo, in 1995 tourist numbers amounted to about 100,000 overnight stays in the summer period. Campomarino is one of the four municipalities in Molise with an Arbëreshë tradition, together with Portocannone, Ururi and Montecilfone. The hamlets of Campomarino have a history of their own compared with the central core of the town and do not belong to the Arbëreshe culture.
Getting there
The hamlet is home to the Campomarino railway station, on the Adriatic line. From the hamlet there are direct connections with Termoli station, on the Milano - Bari line. By car, use the Termoli - Campomarino toll exit on the Adriatic motorway. The strada statale 16 Adriatica links Campomarino with the neighbouring municipalities, including Termoli and Serracapriola.
The airports listed by Wikivoyage are Pescara, about 102 km away, and Napoli Capodichino, about 187 km away. Among the bus companies is C.L.P., with a direct service from Naples to Campomarino and Termoli. The centre of Campomarino lies 2 km as the crow flies west of the beach. The old village of Campomarino once stood on the sea and now lies about two kilometres inland.
When to go
With the north wind (tramontana), the north-east wind (grecale) and the east wind (levante) the wind blows in from the sea and the beach is exposed to waves and rough sea. With the south wind (ostro), the south-west wind (libeccio) and the west wind (ponente) the wind blows from land and the beach is sheltered, with the sea generally calmer close to shore. The south-east wind (scirocco) and the north-west wind (maestrale) arrive from the side instead. These are indications derived from the orientation of the coast, not weather forecasts. The hamlet is a destination for summer beach tourism.
Seabed and sea
In the 2025 season the European Environment Agency (EEA) rated the bathing water quality of this stretch as excellent. In 2026 Campomarino appears in the FEE list of Blue Flag locations, with the entry «Lido». The waters of Campomarino had obtained the Blue Flag in 2004 and in other years, together with Termoli.
Wikipedia mentions a recently built small marina. According to Wikivoyage the marina stands at Campomarino sud and cannot be fully used because of the shallow water at the entrance to the basin. Before swimming it is worth checking wind and waves.
Facilities and free beach
Wikivoyage lists on via del Mare the beach clubs Aurora, La Vela, Mare Chiaro, Miramare, Rosa dei Venti, Stella Marina and Toschi. The same list also includes Conchiglia Azzurra and Ritz on via De Gasperi, Lucio on the seafront, Mambo on via Crispi and Diomedea in contrada Marinelle Vecchie. The campsites include Corrado, Happy Days, La Pineta, Marinelle and Smeraldo Camping Village. Wikivoyage also lists in Campomarino Lido a pharmacy on via De Gasperi and a post office in piazza Aldo Moro.
In 2024 the Comune di Campomarino reactivated the «spiaggia abile» (accessible beach) service, aimed primarily at people with disabilities, elderly people, children and pregnant women. In 2024 the dedicated beach was at the end of the Lungomare degli Aviatori, on the stretch of free beach beside the Lido Mare Chiaro. In 2024 the service offered 12 spots with umbrellas, separate toilet facilities, a walkway from the pavement to the shoreline and two Job beach wheelchairs.

Termoli lies 7 km as the crow flies to the north-west. Termoli is the main town on the Molise coast, and its old core, with the cathedral and the fortifications, stands on a headland above the sea. From the port of Termoli there are connections to the Isole Tremiti and Croatia. The Spiaggia di Rio Vivo lies 5.9 km as the crow flies to the north-west.
The Arcora area lies largely on a hill a few hundred metres from the beaches, with a view of the Isole Tremiti. The territory of Campomarino has been inhabited since the XIX-XVIII century BC, as shown by the remains of the settlement discovered in 1980 at Arcora. In Campomarino the church of Santa Maria a Mare dates from the XII and XIII centuries, in Romanesque style, and was restored in 1710. In the crypt a fifteenth-century fresco depicts Saint Nicholas and Saint Demetrius. In Nuova Cliternia the sanctuary of the Madonna Grande is a pilgrimage destination, with pilgrimages concentrated mainly around the patronal feast on 15 August.
