What the beach is like

Duna Verde beach lies in the locality of the same name in the municipality of Caorle, in the province of Venice, Veneto. The shore faces the Adriatic Sea and looks south-east. The locality of Duna Verde occupies the south-westernmost part of the municipality and borders Eraclea Mare to the west and Lido Altanea to the east. The beach is characterised by dunes and a pinewood, from which the locality takes its name. Despite the construction of many flats used as second homes, Duna Verde has kept important natural features.

The municipal website presents Duna Verde as the most recent resort on the Caorle coast, built between the '60s and '70s. According to Wikipedia, however, it held that title only until 2000, the year Lido Altanea was developed. Duna Verde grew up between the hamlet of Eraclea Mare and the locality of Porto Santa Margherita. The first housing developments were called Duna Verde and Duna Fiorita; Duna Rossa was added in the '90s. According to Wikipedia, the locality has a few dozen permanent residents, but during the summer season, when the beach establishments are open, the population grows considerably.

Getting there

The reference point of the beach lies 1.3 km as the crow flies south-west of the centre of Duna Verde. The centre of Caorle is 8.6 km as the crow flies north-east of the beach. Eraclea Mare is 3.2 km as the crow flies to the south-west, Jesolo 12.2 km to the west. According to the municipal page, updated in 2024, in summer Duna Verde is linked to Porto Santa Margherita and to the main town by an urban bus service.

When to go

According to QualeSpiaggia data, with the east wind (levante), the sirocco (scirocco) and the south wind (ostro) the wind blows in from the sea and the beach is exposed to waves and rough water. With the tramontane (tramontana), the west wind (ponente) and the mistral (maestrale) the wind blows from the land and the beach is sheltered, with calmer water close to shore. The north-easterly (grecale) and the south-westerly (libeccio) blow across the shore instead. These indications are derived from the orientation of the coast and are not weather forecasts.

The municipal page, updated in 2024, states that in summer the holiday villages and residences of Duna Verde host thousands of tourists. According to Wikipedia, during the summer evening events are often held in public spaces in Duna Verde, including a market with stalls. The municipal page, updated in 2024, mentions a seasonal weekly market with 30 stalls, from mid-May to mid-September, on Wednesday mornings in piazzale Madonneta.

Seabed and sea

For the 2025 season the European Environment Agency (EEA) rates the bathing water quality of this stretch as excellent. The beach is sandy. The municipality of Caorle faces the northern Adriatic with more than 17 km of sandy bathing coast, largely used for tourism. The municipal territory is completely flat, with dune micro-reliefs reaching up to 9 m in height. The sources consulted do not give the water depth in front of the beach: it is worth checking it as you wade in.

Facilities and free beach

In 2026 Duna Verde appears on the Blue Flag (Bandiera Blu) beach list compiled by FEE, in the Caorle entry together with Ponente, Brussa and Levante. Wikipedia writes that Duna Verde is one of the stretches of the Caorle coast awarded the Blue Flag since 1992, together with the Levante, Ponente, Brussa and Porto Santa Margherita beaches. According to the municipality, the locality is surrounded by large holiday villages, one of which has a 9-hole golf course. Holiday villages and residences with swimming pools and tennis courts have been built at Duna Verde. The municipality describes the range of shops and entertainment in the centre of Duna Verde as well supplied. Among the campsites of Caorle, Wikivoyage lists the Centro Vacanze San Francesco in Duna Verde, on viale Selva Rosata.

Rules and protected areas

The dunes and pinewood of Duna Verde are protected by the regional forestry agency (Azienda regionale delle Foreste). Wikipedia considers them, together with the hamlet of Brussa, one of the few examples of the ancient woods that have surrounded the Caorle area since antiquity. In Duna Verde you can see the ancient dunes and the coastal pinewood, preserved and protected by ongoing work by the Azienda regionale delle Foreste. They are typical features of the Upper Adriatic coastal ridge, formed over the centuries as a protective barrier between the waves of the sea and dry land. On the dunes it is best not to trample the vegetation.

Nearby

Duna Verde has the church of the Madonna delle Dune, where, according to Wikipedia, services are held during the tourist season. The locality belongs to the parish of the Croce Gloriosa, based in Porto Santa Margherita. Lido Altanea beach is 3.9 km as the crow flies to the north-east, while Villaggio Baleno beach is 1.7 km to the south-west.

Caorle lies between the mouths of the Livenza and Lemene rivers and faces the Adriatic Sea between the resorts of Eraclea and Bibione. The bell tower of Caorle cathedral, built in 1038, is cylindrical in shape and topped by a conical spire.
