Complete guide
Spiaggia di Ponente (Caorle): beach guide
What the beach is like
Ponente beach is one of the two beaches of central Caorle: together with Levante beach, from which it is separated by a thousand-year-old breakwater, it forms a stretch of sand extending on either side of the old town. Together the two beaches offer almost three kilometres of golden sand, on a wide shore that slopes gently into the sea. Along the beach there are botanical oases with trees and plants typical of the area, which create shady corners.
The tourism portal describes the Caorle coastline as a whole as a wide beach of very fine golden sand, partly equipped and partly not. Levante beach lies 2.2 km to the north-east as the crow flies.
Getting there
The centre of Caorle lies 0.9 km north-east of the beach as the crow flies. Caorle's tourism portal reports that during the summer season the beaches can be reached by the urban bus, with dedicated connections for both Ponente beach and Levante beach.
Several of the beach's establishments have their address on Lungomare Venezia, from Don Pablo at number 1 to Cinganotto at number 33. La Vela Beach Life is located in front of Campeggio Santa Margherita (a campsite).
When to go
The bathing season set by the bathing safety ordinance 24/2024 of the Caorle maritime district office (Ufficio circondariale marittimo) runs from the third Saturday of May to the third Sunday of September. According to the same ordinance 24/2024, from the second Saturday of June to the second Sunday of September the lifeguard service must be provided at least from 9:00 to 19:00; for the rest of the season, for shorter hours.
Judging by the orientation of the coast, the beach faces south-east. It is exposed to the easterly (levante), the south-easterly (scirocco) and the southerly (ostro), which blow in from the sea; it is sheltered from the northerly (tramontana), the westerly (ponente) and the north-westerly (maestrale), which blow from the land. The north-easterly (grecale) and the south-westerly (libeccio) strike it side-on. This is an indication based on orientation, not a forecast.
Seabed and sea
The beach is sandy and faces the Adriatic. The seabed slopes gently; according to the tourism portal, this makes getting into the water safe for children and for people with reduced mobility too. In the 2025 season the European Environment Agency rated the bathing water quality as excellent.
In Caorle the bathing waters undergo regular microbiological and chemical checks, and the results of the analyses are posted on signs along the beach. According to ordinance 24/2024, from 1 May to 30 September the strip of sea within 500 metres of the coast is reserved primarily for bathing. Anyone swimming beyond 500 metres must signal their presence with a float bearing a red flag with a white diagonal stripe, tied to their body.
Facilities and free beach
According to the tourism portal, the Consorzio Arenili runs several areas of the Ponente and Levante beaches, with services and equipment for a day at the sea. On the same page about the two beaches the portal mentions the White Oasis and Green Oasis establishments, with seafront gazebos surrounded by greenery.
On Ponente beach the tourism portal also lists Don Pablo, with events and themed evenings after sunset and a rooftop bar; the Guanambì kiosk opposite Hotel Savoy, with food, beach equipment hire and live music; and the Cinganotto establishment, opposite Hotel Miramare, with essential services. The list is completed by the Calligaro, Stella Marina, Ciao Nì and Adria da Paolo kiosks, the last of which is also a sandwich bar, and La Vela Beach Life, with slides, pools, trampolines and a relaxation area with sunloungers and gazebos.
The portal also describes a lifeguard service with jet skis and Rescue Surf and medical and nursing stations on the beach, as well as Apollo 4, a drone able to quickly carry a semi-automatic defibrillator in an emergency.
Umbrellas and sunloungers can also be reached by wheelchair, thanks to ramps at the beach entrances and one-metre-wide walkways forming paths across the sand. By asking the staff of each beach sector you can hire wheelchairs designed to move on sand and suitable sunloungers. Caorle's beach also has changing cabins, showers and toilets.
Rules and protected areas
The same ordinance 24/2024 states that the strip of beach within 5 metres of the shoreline is used for rescue and must always be kept clear of obstacles, for the passage of rescue and police vehicles.
According to the portal, on Ponente beach the Consorzio Arenili runs a Bau Beach (dog beach) in the Green Oasis 8P sector, opposite the municipal campsite Santa Margherita. It is a paid, equipped area, with spots fitted with an umbrella and two sunloungers, a lifeguard, small showers for the animal and water bowls; the dog must be kept on a lead before and after swimming, which takes place in the area marked by buoys.
Beyond the Green Oasis sector is the Pet's Beach Area 9P, an unequipped free beach managed by the Comune di Caorle, measuring about 20 by 60 metres. Dogs must be kept on a lead no longer than 130 cm, muzzled if necessary, and reach the sea through a dedicated corridor. For the area's rules the portal refers visitors to the municipality's state maritime property office and points out that outside the designated areas animals may be banned.
With children
The tourism portal reports that Caorle has been awarded the Green Flag as a child-friendly beach. The same site describes the sea as clear and full of life and suggests that young children catch crabs and hermit crabs and then let them go. Along the coast the portal lists entertainment for adults and children, a babysitting service and the chance to take up sailing sports from an early age. For young children it is useful to bring shade and enough water.
Nearby
In 2026 Caorle's Ponente, Duna Verde, Brussa and Levante beaches appear on the list of Blue Flag beaches compiled by the FEE. According to the tourism portal, Caorle first received the Blue Flag in 2002, then in 2006 and, since 2008, every year.
Porto Santa Margherita lies 1.9 km to the west as the crow flies. Lido Altanea beach is 3.8 km to the south-west. La Brussa, 5.2 km to the north-east, has a natural beach that is part of the Vallevecchia oasis.
