Tuerredda: beach guide
What the beach is like
Tuerredda is a beach in the municipality of Teulada, at the south-western tip of Sardinia. It stretches for more than half a kilometre inside an inlet between Capo Malfatano and Capo Spartivento. The sand is very fine and a delicate gold, and the surrounding landscape is covered in dense Mediterranean scrub. A few hundred metres from the shore there is an islet, which can be reached in a few minutes by swimming or by pedalo. On the islet you can lie on the sand or on the smooth rocks.
Along this stretch of coast gentle and rugged sections alternate, with small beaches separated by tongues of rock. On the left-hand side of the shore, past some rocks, you reach a small beach described as relaxing and quiet. The official tourism portal of the Sardinia Region considers it a symbol of the island and reports that specialist magazines have listed it among the masterpieces of the Mediterranean.
Getting there
From Teulada, take the state road 195 Sulcitana, then turn left onto provincial road 71 and finally follow the signs for Tuerredda. After the turn-off for Perdalonga, the beach comes into view from above one kilometre later. Teulada lies 8.8 km north-west of the beach as the crow flies, Domus de Maria 7 km to the north-east. The regional portal mentions a large car park, also suitable for campervans.
When to go
In 2026 the municipal executive set the limited-access period from 2 June to 11 October, between the hours of 8 and 18, with times that could be changed during the season. In 2025 the municipality reported that in the busiest months, on several days, the maximum capacity of 1,100 people was reached in the early hours of the morning. In high season it is worth arriving early.
Judging by the orientation of the coast, the beach faces south-west. According to QualeSpiaggia data it is exposed to the south wind (ostro), the south-west wind (libeccio) and the west wind (ponente), which come in from the sea, while it is sheltered from the north wind (tramontana), the north-east wind (grecale) and the east wind (levante), which blow from the land. This is an indication derived from the orientation, not a forecast.
Seabed and sea
The seabed is sandy and rich in marine life. The colours of the water range from deep blue to emerald green. The beach looks out over the Tyrrhenian Sea. In the 2025 season the European Environment Agency rated the bathing water quality as excellent. In 2026 the Blue Flag list compiled by the FEE includes, for the municipality of Teulada, the beaches of Sabbie Bianche, Portù Tramatza and Tuerredda.
Facilities and free beach
The regional portal lists beach establishments, a refreshment point on the beach, canoe and pedalo hire and, nearby, bars and restaurants. According to the municipal project for 2025, of the 1,100 daily entries 729 were for the free beach and 371 were reserved for the beach establishments. The same document mentions toilets, showers and foot washes at the entrance to the beach, close to the information point. The project also provided for people with disabilities to be accompanied down to the shoreline with electric vehicles, a wooden boardwalk from the entrance to the water's edge, and a bicycle parking area. It also provided for daily cleaning of the beach and the free loan of mats to those who had booked.
Rules and protected areas
The visitor cap was introduced by the 2020 municipal regulation, which set a maximum of 1,100 people per day. In 2025 entries were monitored with the web app tuerredda.spacli.it, which showed in real time how much free space there is on the beach. Following an amendment in 2024, the regulation allows the municipal executive to set a booking ticket each year of between 1 and 5 euros. For the 2025 season the municipality approved a pilot booking scheme for entry, at a planned cost of 2 euros per person, minors excluded. The project specified that in 2025 booking was optional and did not prevent entry when places were available. Before setting off it is worth checking the entry arrangements in force on the municipality's website.
Under the regulation, itinerant trading on the beach is limited to 5 non-food vendors per bathing season. In Sardinia, regional law no. 16 of 2017 sets a fine of 500 to 3,000 euros for anyone who removes, keeps or sells even small quantities of sand, pebbles, stones or shells from the coast without authorisation.
Nearby
Other beaches on the Teulada coast, such as Porto Tramatzu and the dunes of Porto Pino, can be reached by rubber dinghy. In the background there are often sailing boats at anchor.
The beach of Capo Malfatano lies 1.2 km to the west as the crow flies. The regional portal places Capo Malfatano between Tuerredda and Piscinnì and describes medium-grained sand with pebbles and very shallow, sandy seabeds there. In the western part of that beach there is a small beach establishment, from which boat trips set off along the coast. Its bay was chosen as a landing place by the Phoenicians and then by the Carthaginians from the sixth century BC. The large sandstone blocks of the ancient port's quays can still be seen underwater, a few metres deep, close to the shore. The headland is topped by a Spanish tower and behind it there is a lagoon. From the top of the cape you can see the coves of punta Tonnara, reached by a steep descent, the islet of Tuerredda and, in the distance, the sea stacks of Capo Spartivento.
The Spiaggia di Chia lies 6.4 km to the east as the crow flies. The regional portal describes the beaches of Chia as having light, soft sand, Mediterranean scrub behind them and lagoons populated by rare birds.
