We monitor 35 beaches in the province of Taranto, in 10 municipalities. All of them lie on the Ionian Sea. The municipalities with the most beaches are Taranto (13), Maruggio (5) and Pulsano (4). The northernmost is Spiaggia Verde Mare (Massafra), the southernmost Spiaggia della Commenda (Maruggio).

The seabed is known for 23 of 35 beaches: 21 sandy and 2 pebble. The majority are sandy: 91%.

The most common orientations are south (14 beaches) and southwest (12 beaches). When the Mistral (NW) blows, the beaches facing southeast stay sheltered: 13 of 35. Municipalities with the most sheltered beaches: Maruggio and Palagiano. 2 of 35 beaches are sheltered from the Sirocco (SE): those facing northwest. Municipalities with the most sheltered beaches: Taranto.
Among the best-known beaches: Palagiano beach, Campomarino di Maruggio, Gandoli, Marina di Lizzano and Marina di Pulsano.
