Lido Adriano: beach guide
What the beach is like
Lido Adriano, a frazione (hamlet) of the comune of Ravenna, faces directly onto the Adriatic Sea. It is one of the Lidi Sud, together with Marina di Ravenna, Punta Marina, Lido di Dante, Lido di Classe and Lido di Savio. According to the official website Emilia Romagna Turismo, Lido Adriano is one of the most modern and busiest tourist resorts on the Riviera di Ravenna, and its main strengths are the golden beach and the sea. In the northern part, the beach is reached via a system of wooden boardwalks that cross over the dune. The beach faces east. The coordinates QualeSpiaggia uses for the beach lie 0.7 km as the crow flies north of the built-up area of Lido Adriano.
The resort's name comes from the works of Dante, in which the word adriano is used to mean Adriatic. Of all the Lidi Sud, Lido Adriano was the last to be built, and the town was created from scratch. Until the middle of the twentieth century the land behind it was farmed with cereals and rice paddies, on land owned by the Federazione ravennate delle cooperative. After the Second World War Augusto Chiericati, an entrepreneur from an old Vicenza family, decided to invest in tourist property and bought 332 hectares of coastline from the federation of cooperatives. The agreement with the federation dates from 1961, and in 1962 a general town plan signed by the architect Ludovico Quaroni was submitted to the Comune. The official birth date of Lido Adriano is 19 June 1964, the day the plan was approved by the town council. Houses, hotels, sewers, the water supply and the electricity network were built by the CMC (Cooperativa Muratori e Cementisti), including the high-rise whose official name is "Residence Adriatico". In the eighties the resident population grew and Lido Adriano changed from a tourist resort into a place of permanent residence. At the end of that decade a nursery school, a sports centre and a church opened; later came the post office and, in 1994, the first primary school. Shortly after the turn of the millennium the population exceeded 6 000 inhabitants, with around sixty nationalities recorded. According to Wikipedia it has about 7 000 inhabitants.
Getting there
The city of Ravenna lies 8.5 km as the crow flies west of the beach. A cycle path behind the dunes links the resort with Punta Marina Terme and with Marina di Ravenna. Punta Marina Terme lies 2.6 km as the crow flies north-west of the beach, Marina di Ravenna 7.8 km to the north. According to Emilia Romagna Turismo, Punta Marina Terme is served by public transport departing from Ravenna railway station. A cycle path also runs from the historic centre of Ravenna all the way to the beach of Punta Marina Terme.
When to go
According to Emilia Romagna Turismo, from Easter until well into September Lido Adriano welcomes thousands of visitors every year. The same source writes that in the summer months, from sunset to dawn, the centre and the seafront become destinations for young people and families, with things to do in the evening. Those who prefer a quieter beach can choose the early morning hours.
Seabed and sea
According to the European Environment Agency (EEA), in the 2025 season the bathing water at Lido Adriano was rated as good quality. The stretch of sea in front of the beach belongs to the Adriatic.
According to QualeSpiaggia data, with the gregale (grecale), the levante and the sirocco (scirocco) the wind blows in from the sea and the beach is exposed to waves and rough water. With the libeccio, the ponente and the mistral (maestrale), on the other hand, the beach is sheltered, because the wind blows from the land and the sea close to shore tends to be calmer. The tramontana and the ostro blow across the coast. This is an indication based on the orientation of the coast, not a forecast.
Facilities and free beach
According to Emilia Romagna Turismo, the resort is full of shops, bars, restaurants, ice-cream parlours, modern beach establishments and plenty of sports facilities, including water games and swimming pools. The same source points out that Lido Adriano offers services and many leisure activities for visitors of all ages. Among the tourist information offices listed on the website is the Welcome Room in Lido Adriano.
In 2026, for the comune of Ravenna, the FEE Blue Flag (Bandiera Blu) list includes the Marina di Ravenna/Lido Adriano stretch. The same list also includes Porto Corsini, Lido di Savio, Lido di Dante/Lido di Classe and Casalborsetti. On hot days it is worth bringing water and sun protection.
With children
Emilia Romagna Turismo mentions holiday packages in Lido Adriano aimed at families and facilities designed for children, such as water parks and games rooms. Throughout the year associations and cultural centres such as CISIM organise side activities, including the "non scuola" project of Ravenna Teatro for teenagers. With small children it is wise to keep them in sight in the water and to protect them from the sun in the middle of the day.
Nearby
According to Emilia Romagna Turismo, the area around Lido Adriano offers the artistic and cultural treasures of Ravenna, with its UNESCO monuments, and the nature reserves of the Parco del Delta del Po, which can also be reached by bike. The Mirabilandia amusement park and Safari Ravenna, where many animals can be watched with no barriers, are 16 km away. Cervia and Milano Marittima are also mentioned, with their fashionable venues and opportunities for fun and relaxation. Cervia lies 17.8 km as the crow flies south of the beach, while Lido di Dante is 3.7 km away, also to the south.
Punta Marina Terme, according to Emilia Romagna Turismo, is popular with families and sports enthusiasts and is a spa resort by the sea. Its coastal pine forest, part of the Parco del Delta del Po, is crossed by paths used all year round by runners and walkers. According to Emilia Romagna Turismo, Punta Marina Terme is also home to one of three beach establishments in Italy that allow people with very severe physical disabilities to swim in the sea. The Site of Community Importance Pialassa dei Piomboni, Pineta di Punta Marina lies between the resorts of Marina di Ravenna and Punta Marina and includes a wetland, a coastal pine forest and a stretch of coastline with remnants of active dunes. The site's maritime pine forest is one of the first to be planted at the beginning of the twentieth century under the Rava law. According to the park's page, the site's beach and the sea in front of it, though of interest, are subject to heavy bathing use.
